Breakfast & Coffee

Proper Bagel I had high expectations for because I had heard many rave reviews. Proper Bagel lived up to my expectations and even exceeded them! Proper Bagel is great for quick breakfast, either togo or while dining in.

Five Daughters Bakery has 100 layer cronuts (croissant doughnuts)...need I say more? The Vanilla Cream is my absolute favorite flavor. Five Daughters also has tasy vegan doghnuts that are yummy for vegans and non-vegans alike. There are two locations in Nashville, so definitely stop by while you are in town.

Butcher & Bee has great brunch options, but my favorite item on the menu is the whipped feta. It is served with warm pita and melts in your mouth. They also serve mimosas and have a full bar.

Frothy Monkey is a staple in Nashville. There are mulitple locations around town. It is a great place to eat breakfast with friends or sip coffee while you work. The 12 South location is beautiful (especially in the fall) and they have a great patio. The 12 South location also houses the famous "Nashville Looks Good on You" mural. It is in the back of the restaurant, so don't miss it!

Three Brothers Coffee is known for their black and white Instagram mural. I think they should be known for their crossaints becuase they are AMAZING. The coffee is also great and they have a good variety of milks and homeade syrups to choose from.

The Pancake Pantry is a Tennessee staple. Contrary to the name, Pancake Pantry has many breakfast items. You really cannot go wrong with anything you order. There can be a long wait, so try to get there before or after the breakfast rush. I have been around 8am and got a table with no trouble.

Burgers

Hopdoddy Burger Bar's truffle fries are some of the best in the city in my opinion. Nashville has many great restaurants, but there are especially great burger joints.

Jack Brown's Beer & Burger Joint is a casual, small restaurant with great burgers, fries, and fry sauce. I'm a sucker for a good sauce and Jack Brown's has a great one.

M.L.Rose has multiple locations. They have great burgers and waffle fries. The happy hour deal is 2-1 beers, so definitely go for happy hour.

Burger Up has an upscale feel with reasonable prices! The truffle fries here are also great. If truffle fries aren't your thing, they also have sweet potato and regular fries. They homemake their sauces (even ketchup). The dijonaisse is my favorite sauce to add to my burger. There are also good vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options including a quinoa black bean burger. The East Nashville location was destroyed in the tornado, but so support the 12 South location. I am really hoping the East Nashville location gets rebuilt.

BBQ

Edley's BBQ was the first BBQ I had when I moved to Nashville. My brother made us eat it three times while he was in town becasue he loved it so much!

Peg-Legged Porker is similar to Edley's as far as ordering and no table service. The prices are very reasonable for great BBQ!

Mission BBQ is not local to Nashville, but it is one of my favorites. They have a great sauce selection and the sides are SO good.

Lunch/Dinner

Hattie B's Hot Chicken is a must do when in Nashville. Nashville is famous for hot chicken & Hattie B's is my favorite. There are multiple locations around the city, but it can get really busy at lunch time. Try to go for a late lunch on a weekday to avoid the lines. They also have a to-go window you can order from. If you want authentic hot chicken, Prince's actually invented the famous food.

Luke's 32 Bridge has great sushi and cocktails. However, the best part is the view. On the rooftop, Luke's has couches and a great view of Broadway. Get there at sunset to enjoy the views and sushi before a night on Broadway.

Sushi Train has a literal train of sushi that travels to the tables via a conveyor belt. It sounds crazy and that is why I love it! They have lunch and dinner buffets. The dinner buffet is around ~$20/person and incluldes all you can eat sushi, hibatchi, appetizers, desserts, and sides. If you are aprehensive about your sushi coming to you on the train or want to customize your rolls, you can order any roll off the menu for no extra charge. The only item you get upcharged for is a side of sauce if you would like extra for your sushi. Extra sauce is about 50 cents. You really can't beat the price or the experience.

Five Points Pizza is my favorite pizza in town. It is NY style and can be bought as a whole pie or by the slice. There are two locations that offer dine-in or carry-out. When the dine-in area closes at night, they serve slices out of their to-go window. It is a great late-night snack.
